A few days ago, according to US media reports, the city of Elgin, Illinois, plans to install LED street lights. City officials said installing LED street lights is expected to save money and provide better, more environmentally friendly lighting. The head of public works said that about $2.25 million of investment will be recovered within five to six years.
The city said that the annual electricity bill for streetlights is about $900,000 to $1.1 million. However, after upgrading LED street lights, a rough estimate of annual savings of about $400,000.
In addition to energy savings, the city also wants to reduce maintenance costs, because the reliability of LED street lights is greatly improved compared to the metal halide lamps currently used in cities, and the lifespan is greatly extended.
In addition, the city's energy efficiency program, through the replacement of LEDs, for each watt reduction, pays a one-time reimbursement of $0.70.
The eight-year-old gossip streetlight in central London will be replaced by LED light source in the next few weeks, officially entering the 21st century.
These historic lampposts are located in the shopping and business district along Tottenham Court Road. The area is undergoing an upgraded infrastructure, so these light poles will be repaired and upgraded with energy-efficient LED street lights installed.
Repairs to street lighting columns include removing each pillar, installing new stiffeners, repairing defects, replacing lampshades and lights, and repainting the lampposts to restore their previous glory.
The government has invested heavily in infrastructure in the region, making it more attractive to residents, tourists and businesses.
“We have been implementing LED lighting installation and maintenance projects nationwide, and we are excited to be able to install the latest energy-efficient LED lighting technology here to light up the region in the coming decades.”
